Plants and Trees are the jewels of the land. Herbs and shrubs of Kashmir make this land worth living and worth seeing. Kashmir is a land that is known as paradise on earth. This land is famous for its breathtaking landscapes, including lush forests, valleys, and mountains. These diverse echo systems are home to a wide variety of plants and trees. Pine Tree

Pine trees are abundant in AJK,s forests and are one of the most dominant tree species. Different species of pine such as Pinus Wallichian(blue pines) and Pinus Roxburghii (Chirpine) found here. These evergreen coniferous trees have tall trunks, needle-like leaves, and bear cones. 

Oak Trees

This is another type of tree in AJK. Species like Quercus, Encana (white oak), and Quercus, (more oak) are found in the higher elevations of AJK. Oak trees are deciduous and have broad lobed leaves. They provide habitat and food for various animals.

Maple Trees

Azad Jammu and Kashmir is also known for its maple trees, especially in the Neelum valley. Acer, cappadocicum(Cappadocian maple). And Acer (Korean maple) is a species found here. These trees are known for their foliage with leaves turning vibrant shades are red, orange, and yellow.

Walnut Trees

Walnut trees, specifically juglans regia, are found in valleys and lower altitude areas of AJK. These large deciduous trees produce edible walnuts. The wood of these trees is highly valued for its quality and is used in furniture making.

DeoDar/Cedar

Cedrus/Deodara, commonly known as Deodar/Cedars, is a majestic evergreen tree found in the higher reaches of AJK. It has a conical shape, with drooping branches and needle-like leaves. Deodar/Cedar is valued for its durable timber and is often used in construction.

Himalayan poplar

Populus euphratia, also known as Himalayan Populus is a fast-growing tree found along river banks and in moist areas of AJK. It has a tall, straight trunk with heart-shaped leaves that tremble in the breeze. These are often planted for their ornamental value.

Rhododendron

AJK is home to several species of this plant, which are famous for their vibrant flowers. These flowering shrubs are small trees that thrive in the region’s school, moist climates. They add a splash of colors to the forests with their pink, purple, and white blossoms.

Juniper trees

 Juniperus excels are Greek juniper and Juniperus macropods (Himalayan Juniper) are two species of Juniper trees found in AJK. These evergreen conifers have scaly leaves and produce berries. Juniper trees are important for the local echo system and are often associated with sacred groves.
